Our History

Hunter Banks first opened their doors in February, 1985. The mission then, as now, was to be Asheville’s full line, full-service fly-fishing headquarters. We stocked the store with almost every brand of rods, reels, and fly line. We also stocked the store with a full assortment of accessory items and the area’s largest fly selection.

Today, we are in a new building, having moved in the mid 1990’s, and still carry the largest fly fishing inventory in the area. Many new brands and products have come onto the market since we’ve opened and many are gone. We no longer try to carry everything, as we could not get it all in our store. We've settled on carrying just the very best. Our current inventory is comprised of the equipment our guides use and items recommended to us by our customers. We have applied our 25 years of experience to select the best and most popular items.

To this date, we still have the largest fly selection in the area. Our patterns are hand-selected by our guides and have proven themselves on the stream. Our flies come from premium fly tying companies like Umpqua, Solitude, Montana Fly Company, and Riverborn. One thing is certain - the flies you'll find in our shop are of the highest quality standards.
