The Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T) is coming to Asheville, NC April 7^th, 2012 hosted by Hunter Banks Co., Southern Culture on the Fly (S.C.O.F.) magazine.

One of fly-fishing most celebrated annual events; the Fly Fishing Film Tour simply offers the most diverse, polished and compelling set of independent fly fishing films.

This event will take place at Highland Brewing Company. This year is going to be HUGE, starting with a pre-party at 5pm featuring live music, gear demonstrations and tons of prizes. Food will be available from Asheville’s own the Lowdown Food Truck.

Live music and a fly casting course will be sponsored by Southern Culture on the Fly!

WNC’s own Sylvan Sport, recently featured in Outside Magazine will have one of their GO tents on display.

Have you ever wanted to test your fly fishing skills to saltwater species? Fly Fishing guide Reba Brinkman has teamed up with Hunter Banks Travel on a very exciting ladies fly fishing trip to Jupiter, Florida.

If saltwater fishing interests you but you have not been able to get out enough to feel comfortable with it, then this is the trip for you. You will learn the ins and outs of saltwater fly fishing and have the opportunity to catch a variety of saltwater species like Bonita, Jack Crevalle, Cobia, Snook, Tarpon and Tuna.

Hunter Banks Co. has been blessed with a long association with the best guides in one of the best fisheries in Florida–the beaches off of Jupiter Inlet. Their expertise ensures that you will wear yourself out fighting fish on saltwater fly tackle, gaining the experience in casting, strip-striking, clearing line, seeing fish and fighting them to the boat that is essential to saltwater success. Without this type of experience, any angler attempting to fly-fish the flats, or sight fish to Tarpon, False Albacore or the other trophies of the salt, is severely handicapped. Can you believe this Winter we’ve been having? Mild temperatures, cool waters and hungry fish! We certainly hope you have taken advantage of it and enjoyed some time on the water lately.
As for all of us, Frank is enjoying his time with friends at Chimehuin Safaris in Argentina, spending his days trout fishing on his beloved Argentine waters. Forrest just got back from fishing the White River in Arkansas or as he calls it, Arkentina (for those who can’t go to Argentina every year). Shane has been on the vise quite a bit, both tying for the shop and teaching classes here at Hunter Banks.
Reba has been on the local waters as much as she possibly can and she and Thomas have both taken advantage of Winter Stiper fishing on Lake Hartwell in SC. Steve has done a lot of bird hunting lately … looking forward to hosting his annual saltwater fly fishing trip to Jupiter, FL this summer. When we are not on the water, you can find us in the shop putting up a ton of new fly fishing merchandise.

A Great Event for a Great Cause

Hunter Banks Co. is proud to be a sponsor of the Southern Culture on the Fly’s 2nd annual Tie-One-On-Athon, a fundraiser for our local chapter Project Healing Waters.

The region’s best tiers including guides, shop owners and commercial tiers will put their noses to the vise for eight hours and see how many flies they can produce in the name of Project Healing Waters, a non-profit dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of wounded veterans through fly fishing and fly tying. Attendees can watch the tiers work their magic, visit with veterans, win hourly door prizes from sponsors, and enjoy food and drink available by donation including fine craft beer provided by Green Man Brewery (after 12noon).

Sunday, February 26 from 10am-6pm.

Our Fly Fishing Instruction Is On-The-Water Training

If you want to learn, let’s go fishing. May is one of the best times of the year to be on the water. Comfortable air temperatures, rising water temperatures, hatching insects, and feeding fish all combine for great overall fishing conditions.

In the small high elevations streams, the wild trout are beginning to feed aggressively and can be caught on dry flies with ease. The larger low elevation trout streams are seeing fish caught on mayfly and stonefly nymphs fished deep. The dry fly fishing can be some of the best of the year with mayflies, stoneflies, and caddis hatching sporadically. We’ve got some great streams within a short distance from the shop.

A day spent with one of our guides can help you decode the mysteries of wild trout fishing. For those of you who’d like to catch lots of fish and some big ones, our delayed harvest waters can be a lot of fun in the spring. Let our guides show you how to take full advantage of these great trout-filled resources.

The tailwaters in Tennessee are also truly great in the late spring and summer. This is when the bigger fish are waking up and ready to feed. The Sulphers will start hatching regularly around the end of April and early May on both the South Holston and Watauga. Take a float trip with us and find out what this great fishery is all about.

Southern Appalachian Fly Guide Book Signing Event + Beer

The fly fishing guide, author, and world angler J.E.B. Hall will be at Hunter Banks Company on May 12th between 5PM & 7PM to sign copies of his Southern Appalachian Fly Guide and discuss his views on the fly fishing options of our area.

This book, now in its second edition, has been the most popular book we’ve ever offered and it has been over a year since we’ve had any available for purchase. While this edition shares information with the first, J.E.B. has expanded the book to include areas beyond Western North Carolina but still within reach of local angler.

In addition to the company of a great angler and author, Hunter Banks Company is beginning our evening event series with a complimentary Highland Brewing Company beer. Share a beer, a few stories, and learn more about the best fly fishing resource for our region.
